Location of Nyungwe – Nyungwe Forest National Park is located in the southern part of Rwanda, covering an area of 1,019 square kilometers.
It is adjacent to Kibira National Park in Burundi and southeast of Lake Kivu.
The park’s topography includes a montane rainforest, wetlands, bamboo, bogs, grassland, and Mt. Bigugu (2,150 meters above sea level).
The nearest town to the park is Cyangugu.
How to Get to Nyungwe Forest National Park
You can easily access Nyungwe either by road transport or air transport (domestic).
By Road:
From Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park, one can drive for about 5-6 hours using private or public means for a distance of about 240 kilometers.
The park can also be accessed by road from Lake Kivu and Volcanoes National Park if you are on a combined safari in Rwanda.
By Air:
You can charter a domestic flight from Kigali Airport to Nyungwe Forest National Park using RwandAir services, flying from Kigali International Airport to Kamembe Airport in Rusizi.
