Black and White Colobus Monkeys in Nyungwe – Black and white colobus monkeys form large groups known as “super groups,” ranging from 350 to 400 individuals.
These are considered the largest group of Angolan colobus monkeys in Africa. Encountering these monkeys can be tiring, as they are often found in large tree troops, and you must tolerate their messy eating habits.
However, their behavior aids in plant growth as they spread seeds throughout the forest.
To witness the variety of these monkeys, start your journey in the morning after a hearty breakfast and head off into the jungle.
Along the way, you may also spot L’Hoest’s monkeys, so keep your eyes peeled for wonders at every turn.
The colobus monkeys are very active and are often seen playing, grooming, and swarming the branches of fruiting trees.
They can also be found lining up on old tree barks to eat lichens. If you’re attentive, you’ll have the chance to see the young ones as well.
Since trekking in the primate areas is limited, you need to book early and familiarize yourself with the high and low seasons before setting off.
A maximum of eight people are allowed per tour, and children must be fifteen years or older to participate.
The cost is $60.00 per person, valid for a day.
Apart from monkey trekking, there are other ventures to explore, including:
