Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park – Birding
Depart Kigali in the morning after an early breakfast at your hotel and drive to Nyungwe Forest National Park, arriving at your lodge by lunchtime.
Check in and, after lunch, head out for your first bird-watching experience in Nyungwe Forest.
Look out for the striped-breasted tit, Rwenzori batis, the handsome francolin, and more.
Return to your lodge for evening relaxation and overnight stay.
Day 2: Birding in Nyungwe Forest
Nyungwe Forest is home to over 300 species of birds, featuring Albertine endemic species and some interesting migratory species.
Today, you will spend the whole day in the montane forest looking out for the beautiful avian life that inhabits the evergreen forest.
Some of the species you will encounter are archer’s robin-chat, cinnamon bracken warbler, olive woodpecker, tinkerbirds, yellow-eyed black flycatcher, Albertine owlet, Shelley’s crimson-wing, Rwenzori hill babbler, purple-breasted sunbird, great blue turaco, regal sunbird, red-throated alethe, thick-billed seedeater, and much more.
You might also spot some primates while out in the forest, so take time to enjoy your surroundings as you search for the birds.
Day 3: Transfer Back to Kigali
Optional morning activities for day 3 before your transfer back to Kigali include chimpanzee trekking or the canopy walk.
