Day 1: Kigali to Nyungwe Forest National Park
Begin with breakfast at your hotel in Kigali early in the morning.
Afterward, join your safari driver who will drive you to the south of Rwanda to explore Nyungwe Forest National Park.
En route, you will visit the Nyanza King’s Palace and the National Museum, have lunch in Butare, and then proceed to Nyungwe Forest National Park, arriving in the early evening.
Check in for the night at your booked safari lodge.
Day 2: Chimpanzee Trekking and Canopy Walk
Chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest starts very early in the morning with a briefing from the park officials at the park’s head office.
You will walk into the forest with the lead of a park ranger to search for the chimpanzees in Nyungwe Forest, which is also home to 12 other primate species, some of which you may see during the trek.
Spend an hour with the chimpanzees once you find them and then return to the park office.
Later in the day, you will go for the canopy walk before returning to your safari lodge for the night.
Day 3: Transfer to the Democratic Republic of Congo – Bukavu
Your time in Nyungwe ends today. Have your breakfast, check out, and transfer across the border to Bukavu in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
In the afternoon, you will arrive at your accommodation in Bukavu, have lunch, and have the rest of the day to yourself.
You can opt to visit the neighboring community. Overnight at the hotel in Bukavu.
Day 4: Lowland Gorilla Trekking – Kahuzi Biega National Park
Today, you will see the lowland gorillas in Kahuzi Biega National Park on a morning trek that lasts anywhere from 2 to 4 hours.
Trekking the lowland gorillas is a different experience from trekking the mountain gorillas.
When you meet the lowland gorillas, you will notice the differences between the two, noticeably in their size as the lowland gorillas are larger.
Return from the trek and take a visit around town or embark on a scenic guided nature walk in the park.
Day 5: End of Tour
After your breakfast, you will cross the border back to Rwanda and transfer back to Kigali for a drop-off at your hotel or the airport.
