Nyungwe National Park in March – March is characterized by:
- Increased humidity as the wet season progresses
- Regular rain showers nourishing the forest and its inhabitants
- Mild temperatures ranging from 18°C to 25°C
March is a wet month that kicks off other showering months, offering a variety of activities such as hiking, birdwatching, butterfly viewing, canopy walks, and colobus monkey trekking, to mention just a few.
Primate Tracking
Primate Tracking attracts many tourists each March. This is a very popular activity that attracts the attention of tourists.
The journey begins in the morning after breakfast with a briefing on the dos and don’ts, such as restrictions on noise pollution, prohibitions against plucking leaves or uprooting trees, and not feeding animal species, as wildlife conservation is a priority in Rwanda.
Be sure to follow the tour guide to avoid getting lost in the jungle.
The tracking usually takes the entire day, so make sure to bring a raincoat, as Nyungwe is a rainforest, and rain showers are to be expected.
Also, carry enough water to sustain you throughout the journey, along with waterproof clothes and hiking boots.
Canopy Walk
Canopy Walk allows you to connect with the land. The canopy walk involves walking on foot through parts of the park, sometimes behind some fierce wild species, but always under the guidance of a well-trained tour guide.
Make sure to pack some water bottles in case you get thirsty.
This activity allows you to connect with the land and experience the essence of Africa as you gaze at different landscapes.
Camping
Camping may be challenging but is available. Camping may be challenging due to the muddy ground, but there are camping sites built on wooden platforms suitable for all weather conditions.
Mats may be provided, but ensure you bring all the necessary equipment.
Don’t venture into the bush if you need to relieve yourself—washrooms are available within the camping site.
Restaurants and bars are also nearby, offering excellent services.
Mingling with the Local People
Mingling with the Local People provides an authentic experience. Charity begins at home, and sharing is caring. Take time to visit the nearby village, where you will experience the true definition of love as both young and old welcome you with big smiles and share their day-to-day life experiences.
Translators are always available to facilitate communication. Relax on wooden seats as you take photographs of their grass-thatched houses, smeared with mud or cow dung, and decorated with artifacts.
This is the month that the Lord has made for you. Rejoice in it as you visit Nyungwe National Park.
